Over the last few decades, we have witnessed the gradual\u00a0digitisation<\/strong>\u00a0of all aspects of our daily lives. The situation in recent months has accelerated this process, especially in certain sectors such as the hospitality industry.<\/p>\n

In addition to\u00a0the digitalisation of the restaurant menu<\/strong>, another measure that many businesses are\u00a0incorporating is the digital receipt<\/strong>, something which has been fully accepted, above all, by the younger, more digital generations, among whom being environmentally-friendly carries a lot of weight.<\/p>\n

The paper receipt is still the most widely used at present, therefore, implementing digital receipts involves explaining to customers how it works and, furthermore, as FACUA points out, replacing paper receipts with digital receipts is a measure that the law only allows if the consumer is in agreement.<\/p>\n

With this in mind, it should be noted that restaurant customers can benefit greatly from the digital receipt. It doesn\u2019t get misplaced in the wallet or end up directly in the bin; the consumer can save it directly in their email, and it cannot be lost or damaged.<\/p>\n

Leaving aside the benefits for customers, the implementation of digital receipts also has a number of advantages for restaurants and caf\u00e9s, among which we highlight:<\/p>\n

  1. It modernises the image of the restaurant<\/strong>\u00a0by using the latest technology.<\/li>\n
  2. It also contributes to the positioning of the\u00a0establishment<\/strong>\u00a0and its commitment to reduce its environmental impact, both by eliminating the use of paper and by reducing its carbon footprint.<\/li>\n
  3. In relation to the above, it also\u00a0reduces costs<\/strong>\u00a0by saving paper and ink or thermal paper.<\/li>\n
  4. It increases the\u00a0restaurant\u2019s customer database<\/strong>, as an email address is needed to deliver a digital receipt. Those who opt for a digital receipt will have to leave their contact email (respecting GDPR), and they can also choose to subscribe to the restaurant newsletter and to receive offers from it; a good way to generate customer loyalty.<\/li>\n
  5. Incorporating digital receipts also\u00a0streamlines the restaurant\u2019s accounting process<\/strong>, as it groups and sends all receipts directly to the accounting team.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
